One in five people are affected by substance abuse

    admin Addictions

The experienced professionals at Fairwinds Treatment Center believe that healing one individual can heal a family, and that by healing families we can succeed in healing society.

Dr. M.K. (Khal) El-Yousef founded Fairwinds 25 years ago to help individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. Dr. El-Yousef is a board-certified psychiatrist and is nationally recognized as a pioneer in psychiatry and addictions medicine. He developed the dual diagnosis method of treatment that Fairwinds still champions today, which treats patients for both physical and psychological causes and symptoms of addiction.

Most treatment centers only work to heal patients' physical reliance on drugs or alcohol, whereas Fairwinds also recognizes that underlying mental and emotional issues can actually trigger addiction. By employing both clinical treatment methods to address the physical disease and therapeutic methods to identify the underlying causes of addiction, Fairwinds offers its patients the best possible chance at long-term recovery.

According to the BBC, one in five people is affected by someone's substance abuse problem, which is why Northern Ireland is now offering a service for the family members of addicted people. Addiction is a disease that effectively destroys families and communities, and as such, it's important that not just addicts but also their family members and friends are receiving proper treatment. The Southern Health Trust helped 164 families cope with addiction in the last year, offering them emotional support as they try and help their loved ones fight substance abuse.

If your loved one is suffering from substance abuse, call Fairwinds today. We're one of the best dual diagnosis treatment centers in the nation, and want to help your family get back to a healthier and happier place.
