Before administering your son or daughter into a treatment center, find out all the information you can about the facility.

How does addiction treatment work at treatment centers?

    admin Addictions

When parents like yourself administer your son or daughter into a treatment center, you'll want to know the specific steps a facility will take to treat them.

It's critical to understand treatment options, side effects and short- and long-term plans of actions prior to signing any paperwork. The more upfront information you know, the more at ease you'll feel when your loved one is administered into a program. Fairwinds Treatment Center of Clearwater, Florida offers six levels of care: inpatient, partial hospitalization, outpatient, residential, intensive outpatient and detox. For more information, you're welcome to visit our page on levels of care.

While every type of care is different, common threads exist between all of them. Here are three of them:

    1. They are all unique to the patient
Using a dual-diagnosis approach, Dr. M.K (Khal) El-Yousef treats the underlying cause of a person's condition as well as the problem itself. So while patients may be in different programs, the approach is always the same: We have an eye towards the future to ensure quality care and prevent relapse.

    2. Constant monitoring
If doctors need to administer drugs to patients, they must always – and let us repeat, always – monitor drug administration.

    3. Consistent communication
Doctors should always be communicating with you and your loved one throughout the recovery process even if they're being treated on or off campus.

To prevent relapse and side effects, doctors may administer any number of drugs or they may take a drug-free approach. The type of drugs used is situation-specific. For example, doctors may give patients who are addicted to opioid addiction buprenorphine or methadone, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. If a patient is suffering from alcohol addiction, doctors may provide them with FDA-approved naltrexone, disulfiram or acamprosate, the organization noted.
