While many people mistakenly believe that an eating disorder is primarily about a person’s eating habits and physical appearance, we believe that it is often an expression of underlying mental, psychological or emotional pain. That’s why we use a unique and effective approach, combining clinical treatment and therapeutic counseling. We personalize these treatment plans to meet each patient’s individual needs, promoting healing of the mind, body and spirit and putting them on the path to lasting and sustainable wellness.

Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder that makes its victims obsess over weight and food. Sufferers often feel a loss of control over their dietary habits, leading them to binge eat unhealthy amounts. These binging periods are then followed by purging sessions, which are used to avoid weight gain. Many people associate bulimia with self-induced vomiting, but it may also involve the misuse of laxatives and diuretics, fasting and/or excessive exercise.

Learn MoreFairwinds, which offers inpatient eating disorders treatment, uses a non-diet approach for bulimia or anorexia treatment. Upon admission to our facility and initial assessment, the attending physician and the registered dietician will work together to determine the number of calories the client needs to receive, as well as his or her final goal weight. The goal is for each client to gain at least one and one-half pounds (1.5 lb) per week. Caloric intake will be evaluated at every multidisciplinary team meeting and may be altered as necessary. If additional calories are required in the week between meetings, formula feedings are added.
