Our Team
Jess Loven, Clinical Director, CAP
Jess brings over 30 years of experience working in the addictive field in a variety of roles ranging from primary therapist to CEO. Jess has been a Certified Addictions Professional (C.A.P.) in Florida since 1987. Jess has an extensive background in working with adolescents and adults, specializing in co-occurring disorders and impaired professionals. Jess also has a range of special skills relative to quality assurance and improvement from his years working in facilities that were both State of Florida licensed and certified through the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Most recently he spent the past year and a half as a licensing specialist for the Department of Children and Families, and was the authorized agent for many local treatment programs in the Tampa Bay area. Jess sums up his treatment philosophy in these simple terms, “Everyone deserves recovery and an opportunity to have the best care possible. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t want to get better on some level; no matter how hopeless or helpless they may feel. Sometimes we may feel we’re beyond help but I’ve spent my entire adult life working in treatment centers, and I know that its the work that keeps me energized. I do not believe in “lost causes.” I do believe strongly that there is always hope for a new future in recovery.”
Kourtney Gordon, M.S.R.D., L. D., C.E.D.R.D.
Kourtney has been with Fairwinds Treatment Center since 2000 and serves as our Clinical Dietitian and Eating Disorder Program Manager. She is an active member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and is currently the President-Elect for the local iaedp Tampa Bay Chapter.She was also recently awarded certification through iaedp as an Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDRD). Kourtney is responsible for the weekly nutrition groups and outings to re-familiarize/ desensitize patients to healthy eating habits and attitudes about food in normal community activities. Kourtney is involved in facilitating and counseling patients to begin recovery eating patterns and weight stabilization through educational and experiential activities, as well as act as liaison between departments to ensure the eating disorder program is meeting it’s goals in facilitating the patients recovery process.
Melissa Marciano, MS
Melissa is a full-time therapist at Fairwinds Treatment Center. She has received her Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of South Florida and her Masters of Science in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University of Tampa, FL. Melissa has extensive training in a variety of treatment modalities including, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), MET (Motivational Enhancement Therapy), Reality Therapy, Solution Focused, NAPPI (Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention) and REBT (Rational Behavioral Emotive Therapy). She specializes in co-occurring disorders, substance abuse, chronic mental illness, behavioral and emotional disorders as well as eating disorders. Melissa has an extensive background in working with adolescents and their families as well as adults in crisis and traumatic situations. Melissa also utilizes play therapy with adolescents struggling on the Autism spectrum.
Erica Hellman, MA, CRC, RMHCI
Erica earned her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and her Masters of Arts in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida. Erica specializes in Eating Disorders, Personality Disorders, Mood Disorders, PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Addictions, Domestic Violence and Mental Health Disorders. Erica has also had training for Veterans with PTSD and Psychotic Disorders. Her skills include psychoeducation, Mindfulness, 12-Step process, Spirituality, Behavior Modification, CBT and DBT skills.
Sara Maison, MS, RYT-200
Sara is a program therapist trained in solution-focused therapy and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and Public Policy from Oakland University, MI. She furthered her degree at Texas Tech University, TX with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. She specializes in eating disorders and athletes with eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, substance abuse and mental health disorders. Treatment work has included individual sessions and groups, couple and family therapy and is well versed in the 12-step treatment approach. Sara is a certified yoga instructor and registered with the Yoga Alliance. Sara has been utilizing her yoga skills to assist patients with mindfulness, meditation, being present in the moment, focus and relaxation.
Russell Porter, MA, LMHC
Russ is our most tenured clinical therapist at Fairwinds Treatment Center, with more than 25 years of experience working with children, adults, couples, and families in both residential and outpatient settings. Russ obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary. His style combines psychological, spiritual, and philosophical principles, as well as humor, to motivate people to greater levels of accomplishment and satisfaction in their lives. Outside of Fairwinds Treatment Center, Russ has his own outpatient practice and supervises LMHC and LMFT interns for licensure.
Ron Calhoun, MA, LPC, LMHC, CAP
Ron currently works with patients in our Substance Abuse IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program). Ron is a skilled, dedicated therapist with over 25 years of experience in providing effective treatment for patients suffering from co-occurring disorders, including substance abuse, mental health disorders and PTSD. Ron obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Chaminade University in Honolulu and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Ron has worked in individual, family and group settings to facilitate positive lifestyle changes. Ron has additional training experience in domestic violence, eating disorders and co-dependency issues.
