Bulimia Treatment

Struggling with Bulimia?

Do you find yourself locked in a cycle of compulsive eating and purging? Do you overeat, only to force yourself to vomit, obsessively exercise or take laxatives to lose weight? If so, you may be struggling with bulimia, a serious, potentially life-threatening eating disorder.

What is Bulimia Nervosa?

Those who suffer from bulimia nervosa obsess over how much food they eat and their weight. Sufferers often feel like they’ve lost control over their dietary habits, leading them to binge eat. These binging periods are then followed by purging sessions to prevent weight gain. Many people associate bulimia with self-induced vomiting, but it may also involve the misuse of laxatives and diuretics, fasting or excessive exercise.

Thanks in part to the extensive expertise of founder Dr. Khal El-Yousef and eating disorder specialist Dr. Pauline Powers, Fairwinds Treatment Center is one of the most well-respected eating disorder centers in the nation. We treat bulimia nervosa in a close-knit and comfortable environment, encouraging patients to do the following:

  • Accept their body the way it is regardless of their shape or size
  • Integrate therapeutic experiential, nutritional and mindful experiences to improve quality of life
  • Live in the moment without constantly judging their weight and the type of or how much food they eat
  • Live without comparing oneself to others.

Our unique dual diagnosis methodology combines clinical treatment and therapeutic counseling to promote lasting healing of the mind, body and spirit. We understand that each patient and each case of bulimia is unique, which is why we create a personalized plan for each out our patients to best meet their needs.

The History of Fairwinds Treatment Center

Fairwinds Treatment Center was founded by Dr. Khal El-Yousef in 1989, and we offer a treatment model that combines the benefits of therapy with a more clinical approach to eating disorders, addiction and the underlying psychological conditions that can spur these self-destructive behaviors. We believe that addressing all of the factors that contribute to an eating disorder is the only way to facilitate a full recovery. As such, we are one of the only dually licensed psychiatric and substance abuse treatment facilities in the nation to earn accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), which empowers us to address any chemical dependencies or behavioral issues that may contribute to an eating disorder.
