For most, the holiday season is a time of joy and happiness. But for those suffering from an eating disorder, such as Anorexia Nervosa, this time of year is their worst nightmare. While most healthy people are devouring heaps of calories, those suffering from Anorexia Nervosa are often carefully counting those calories, fearful of how they might affect their weight and health.
There are many different types of eating disorders. Some include Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorders and Bulimia Nervosa. And while they all affect victims in different ways, they have in common certain managerial practices.
First, victims should keep in touch with their treatment teams. These teams will help them better understand how to manage their specific conditions around the holidays. If victims follow a meal plan, they should stick to it. It’s also best victims stay close to people they trust.
Remember, the holidays don’t have to be stressful as long as sufferers approach them with a well defined plan.
