Columbia University revealed in a study that nearly 20 percent of American high school students drink, smoke or use drugs during the school day. And nearly 75 percent of 12 to 17-year olds said they were encouraged to party using illegal substances.
As a parent, it’s important to catch the signs of substance abuse as early as possible. Doing so could not only help your children stay out of trouble and remain healthy, but also save their lives
We understand it’s not easy to do so. Many times they are scurrying in and out of the house to go to school, attend practice or hang out with friends.
Remember, however, that you have a right as a parent to stay updated on what they’re doing. Keep the lines of communication open, help them understand the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and always remember to firmly establish and enforce house rules.
