Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders
Getting the Help You Need
Fairwinds Treatment Center offers an intensive outpatient program for individuals dealing with eating disorders. For some people this may be the first time seeking help for issues with food. For others this may be the additional support needed to help stay focused on your path to recovery. This six week program gives patients the opportunity to explore relationships with food, weight and eating in a supportive environment of peers and professionals.
Summary of topics covered during the six week IOP program
• Nutrition Education
• CBT/DBT Therapy
• Art Therapy and Family Therapy
• Process Groups/Life Skills/Mindfulness
• Experential Activities
• Meal Support
Meals are provided by Fairwinds during all IOP sessions. Menus are provided to plan out with our Registered Dietician. This allows patients to plan and process the experience of eating meals that may not be within their comfort zone. Consideration will be made to accommodate allergies. It is understood that the meal support part of the program may be the most difficult experience. Patients are supported in their efforts to consume food in a safe environment and processing within the group will occur to facilitate acceptance of "recovery" eating.
Families are integral components of a recovery support team and we hold a multifamily group once a week during the course of treatment.

• Treat the physiological problems resulting from
the condition
• Normalize eating behavior
• Treat co-occurring psychiatric disorders
• Reframe cognitive distortions

Nutrition philosophy
Our nutrition philosophy utilizes a non-diet approach to address each patient's individual treatment plan.
Tools such as, intuitive eating, journaling, menu planning and various experiential activities help develop
the diversified and structural curriculum necessary to facilitate nutritional recovery.
Real world educational experiences are part of treatment and available to all patients. These include grocery store
trips, eating out in restaurants, and weekly nutrition education groups.
