If your teen is just entering high school, it’s a good idea to help him or her prepare for tough challenges. One issue he or she may encounter is being offered drugs.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 35 percent of 9th grade male students used marijuana at least once in their life. That number spiked to 50 percent among 11th grade males. Females weren’t far behind their male peers in those numbers.
Here are three tips on how to start a conversation with your kids:
- Talk to kids at the right time of the day. Instead of trying to catch them running out the door, have a conversation right after dinner or before they go to bed.
- Remember to teach. It’s important your teenager feels comfortable asking you questions.
- It’s your home, so set firm ground rules.
